Director requested a large twisty mahogany cane. I started with a 2x4 for strength and added shape with paper maché.
Our modern-ish concept made Uzi's an appropriate choice for the guards. Though they are a bit unusual for this weapon, I added a large silencer and stock for visibility in the large proscenium house.

Small Thrust Theatre
My director began with the concept of the 2D aspect, as a way for the book to come right off the page. I found this allowed delightful ways to play with shape. The clover, acting as the bridge between the worlds, was the only 3D object.
All 2D props were hand drawn on masonite and jigsawed out, then primed and painted. Budget was a huge factor with this production, so full sheets of masonite had to be used as economically as possible. Therefor, scraps left from cutting out the major pieces became trumpets, stars, and other small items.
